Ep 85: 5 Things You Need To Know Before Starting Your Own Business - With Jan Rezek And YvG5O (Part 1)

November 20, 2018

Is entrepreneurship for everyone or do you have to have “IT” in your DNA? Jan Rezek, known in some circles as a “serial entrepreneur” gives our listeners 5 basic tips that will help them to determine if they should start their own business or not.

What's Special About Jan?

Originally from the Czech Republic, Jan has been studying and doing business in Denmark for the past four years. In some circles, he is known as a serial entrepreneur (do not confuse with a serial killer ;)) and a “Go-To” Person if you look for professional advice about how to start your own business.

Jan has been starting up businesses since he was 16 years old. He has founded or partially owned four different companies and consulted/coached dozens of entrepreneurs on how to make their startups successful. Today he has graced us with his presence on the Radio and gave us his insight on what the life of an entrepreneur in the foreign country truly looks like.

Jan on Jan: Serial entrepreneur with a business DNA, who has talent to spot opportunities on the market. My main life mission is to challenge the status quo and to help others pursuing their why. Dreamer trying to stop his brain wondering for the last 27 years.

In The First Episode, Jan, Anna And Marta Discussed:

  • Why some people call Jan a serial entrepreneur and how many businesses was he involved with so far?

  • Romantic vs. realistic view on entrepreneurship

  • What is a difference between entrepreneur and self-employed and why many people are not entrepreneurs even if they like to think they are

  • Why entrepreneurship cannot be learned or taught?

  • Tip number one for expat entrepreneurs: Don’t get discouraged by administrative procedure

  • What are the advantages of starting a business in a foreign country and why it can be a golden opportunity?

  • Why startups tend to neglect the resources they already have?

  • Why having an investor could be a nightmare in disguise?

  • And how on Earth have Jan ended up building a laser tag arena, having “two left hands” and no technical background?

  • And many more!

Questions From The Listeners:

In this episode, Jan has answered questions from:

Kate Dahl: What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? I keep telling myself I am not, and I say I have no interest. However I am making an initiative to help internationals in landing or getting a job in Denmark and I don’t plan on this ever becoming a business. In my opinion it is a bad business model, because I want to do it genuinely to help people and I believe I should not do it for the money. Because I am doing this initiative, does this making me an entrepreneur or do you consider this more as a personal branding? What are your thoughts

Manzura Bakaeva: What are the sources of financial support for startups, that don’t have the option of borrowing money? Where to start?
